Animation Fest at the Cinematheque this Week

THIS WEEK at the Cinematheque Iloilo, Filipino Animated movies will be showcased in their GRAND ANIMATION FEST which runs APRIL 24 to MAY 2, 2013. The Features will include...

1. URDUJA (2008)
Urduja is a 2008 animated film adaptation of the legend of the warrior princess Urduja of Pangasinan. It is the first of two locally produced animated films. Voices of Regine Velasquez, Cesar Montano, Eddie Garcia, Michael V. and Jay Manalo.

2. KAPITAN TORPE (2011)
Kapitan Torpe is the code name of a reluctant superhero who fights crime and helps the oppressed. He is very unlike his alter ego, Manuel, a production assistant working under a dictatorial director whose only reason for not quitting his job is because he is in love with Mikki, the director’s assistant. As he is thrust deeper and deeper into the world of crime fighting, Miguel realizes that it is easier to be brave in the face of oppression than it is in the face of true love.

3. SI PAGONG AT SI MATSING (2012)
An adaptation from the folktale by Jose Rizal, Si Pagong at si Matsing is a story of Matsing who thinks highly of himself and uses his brains to try and outwit the nice and helpful Pagong. This film is directed by Carmen Del Prado. All background elements were handcrafted/ hand painted using recycled and craft materials.

4. DAYO (2008)
Dayo is a heartwarming story of overcoming one's fear and succeeding
over adversity. The plot revolves around Bubuy ( voiced Nash Aguas) who is out to save hi abducted grandparents
in the land of Elementalia, a magical and mystical world that houses many of the Philippines' mytical creatures
and other enchanted elements. This locally produced animated film aims to reintroduce the other side of mythical creatures
like the tikbalang, kapre, manananggal, and aswang by giving a new dimension to these typically reviled creatures.

5. KALON (2012)
Lakay Shalan decides that his only son , Kajem, is of the right age to marry,
and so hurries off to find awife for him. Kajem is only unable to have his say
on the marriage matter, and helplessly looks on as his father ventures out to seek a wife.
Meanwhile, a group of girls leave for home after panning for gold along the river.
Lakay Shandin is heard calling for Shamdaja, one of his daughters. Mahaysha, Shamdaja's sister,
realizes that her sister is not among their group and starts calling for her.
