Rififi to be screened at the UPV Cinematheque

The Cinema Exmundo UPV Cinematheque presents a screening of the French film noir masterpiece "Du Rififi Chez Les Hommes" (also known as simply just "Rififi")  directed by Jules Dassin, on Sunday May 7, 2017 2:00 PM at the UPV Cinematheque, U.P Visayas, Iloilo City Campus, Infante Ave., Iloilo City.

"2 Cool 2 Be 4Gotten" Gets Extended

The FDCP Cinematheque has just announced the extension of screening for the film "2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten" by Petersen Vargas, on May 3 and 4, 2017 at 6PM. Admission fee is PHP 150. The film opened in Cinematheque Iloilo last April 26, 2017 and has received a warm, packed reception. So much so that an extension is well deserved.

CineKasimanwa Films to be Screened at "Pag+uo"

In tune with the solemn season, the CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines' Cinematheque Iloilo presents "Pag+uo" a screening of films about trials, challenges, fate, mystery, hope, journey, redemption, symbolisms, pain and joy, in the eyes of Ilonggo Filmmakers. These are picked selections from the CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival screenings. The screenings will be held at the FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo, Solis Street, Iloilo City on April 8 and 9 at 2:00 PM screenings. These films are Free of charge, and the filmmakers will be in attendance.

What's Opening This Week

Nothing much on what is new on Iloilo's silver screens this week. We can only highlight the Ilonggo Films that will be screened at the FDCP Cinematheque this weekend; the CineKasimanwa: Western Visayas Film Festival in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines' Cinematheque Iloilo presents "Pag+uo" a screening of Ilonggo Films that are appropriate for this solemn season. We will be talking more about that on tomorrow's edition of my column. So far, there are only two new on the mainstream theaters.

FDCP Cinematheque's SCREAMFEST 2016

In celebration of the Halloween season, the Cinematheque Iloilo presents a couple of scary films that will surely chill and thrill audiences. The World Premieres Film Festival at the Cinematheque this Week

The World Premieres Film Festival continues this week at the FDCP Cinematheque with a handful of wonderful films from around the world, namely; Chicas Paranoicas, Candlestick, Open Wound, Filosofi Kopi, and the WPFF 2015 Short Films, and on Saturday, the five-and-a-half-hour Lav Diaz film "Mula sa Kung Ano ang Noon" gets a screening. This set will run from June 21 till 26, 2016. The World Premieres Festival Films are free admission while "Mula sa Kung Ano and Noon" will have a 100 peso admission fee. [hit the jump to continue]

The Filmed Don Quixote at the FDCP Cinematheque

This week at the FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo, in honor of the famed author, Miguel de Cervantes who penned Don Quixote, Instituto Cervantes de Manila, the Embassy of Spain, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) have organized a special cycle of films inspired by Cervantes’s life and writings, entitled “The Filmed Don Quixote.” This includes the films: "Las Gallinas de Cervantes" by Alfredo Castellon,  "El Caballero Don Quijote" by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, and "Don Quijote de la Mancha" by Rafael Gil. SWAP Screens at the FDCP Cinematheque

This week, the FDCP Cinematheque screens the thrilling crime drama film "Swap” by Cebuano filmmaker Remton Zuasola, about a kidnapped baby and the shocking demand from its kidnappers. The film will screen from March 29 to April 3, 2016 (Tuesday to Thursday 3:30 PM & 5:30 PM, Friday 1:30, & 5:30 PM, Saturday 3:30 PM & Sunday 1:30 PM).
